- Palestinians: A diverse people—many faiths, many politics. Not synonymous with Hamas.
- Hamas: A U.S.-designated terrorist organization that controls Gaza, crushes dissent, hides behind civilians, and carried out the Oct 7 atrocities.
- Israel: A U.S. ally with a right to exist and defend its citizens. You can debate its government like we debate ours; that’s freedom—not terror-apologia. Israelis are fed up and rightly so:
Campus reality check: classrooms, not mob rule
Jewish students didn’t sign up to be targets. They’re paying for education, not intimidation. When administrations “turn the other cheek,” they tell targeted students to stand there and take it. Enough.
You don’t “protest” by cheering kidnappers. You don’t “educate” by chasing classmates out of libraries.
Moral clarity in one paragraph
Hamas attacked civilians. That’s terrorism. Israel fights Hamas. That’s war. Civilians suffer—so demand humanitarian corridors and hostages released. But don’t launder terror behind slogans. You can criticize a government; you don’t excuse murderers.
What the protests keep getting wrong
- “Palestinians = Hamas.” False. Many Palestinians fear or oppose Hamas. Say that out loud.
- “Genocide” as a catch-all. Words matter; precision matters. Use facts, not megaphone math.
- Erasing Oct 7. The first strike was Hamas. Start there or you’re not serious.

Bottom line: “Paid protesters” is a claim that needs receipts. Here’s what we can document—funding streams that make protests possible: travel stipends, buses, food, signage, bail funds, legal support, and paid organizers.
What to look for (and show your work)
- University records: Student org budgets, reimbursements, speaker fees, facility reservations, security charges. (Public schools = FOIA-able.)
- Nonprofit filings (IRS Form 990): Grants to campus groups or “coalitions,” payroll for “field organizers,” line items for “advocacy events.”
- Public statements: Event flyers promising “travel reimbursement,” “meal vouchers,” or “stipends.”
- Legal/bail support: Groups advertising bail funds and legal defense for arrestees during campus actions.
