My name is Richard Schaefer, although many people know me simply as Sarge.
I served in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 to 1972, including thirteen months in Vietnam as a combat engineer. The experiences, people, lessons, and unanswered questions from those years have remained with me throughout my life.
After the Marine Corps, life took me through college, veterans counseling, the travel and golf industries, television golf production, writing, and eventually retirement in the Philippines.
Chatrodamus grew from a lifelong habit of observing patterns, questioning conventional wisdom, remembering where we’ve been, and wondering where today’s decisions may take us tomorrow.
The name combines a little Nostradamus, a little artificial intelligence, and the stubborn curiosity of a United States Marine.
Here you’ll find stories about military service, retirement abroad, artificial intelligence, scams, nostalgia, human behavior, modern culture, and the strange unintended consequences that often accompany progress.
I don’t claim to predict the future perfectly.
I simply believe the signals usually appear before the headlines—if we’re willing to pay attention.
