Nearly every man and a lot of women in America possess a gun. Sport shooting is popular for people of all ages and genders. Attack us at your own risk. That’s not a threat — that’s a fact. And here’s the rub: some of us are more dangerous to the enemy, former military, well-trained and calm under fire. Police, National Guard, Firearms instructors, Open Carry licensed.
Untrained citizens are dangerous to themselves because they’ve never been taught squat about how to unfreeze themselves in a life or death situation, how to calmly load and point a weapon and keep the bad guys from taking it from you and hurting you with your own weapon. If you do shoot, what happens after the smoke clears, Shock! Sick inside, guilt, disbelief. Gun control? We’d have a much better chance to control the people who use guns in the wrong way, than to legislate gun controls.
Let’s get something straight: If you ever have to kill someone — self-defense or not — you’re not walking away clean. You’ve just bought a one-way ticket to the hurt locker. That’s Marine-speak for a world of emotional, legal, and societal shit raining down on you. Lawsuits from relatives. Night sweats at 0300. Some boot civilian prosecutor who doesn’t possess the imagination to put himself or his family in a situation that requires the use of a gun and wants to paint you as an out of control Dirty Harry Callahan.
They say “shoot to wound.” Yeah, good luck threading that needle while a meth-head’s charging you with a crowbar. Aim for center mass. Always. Anything else is fantasy cooked up by people who have never faced an enemy in real life.
Responsible gun owners aren’t the problem. We’re the folks teaching our kids how to respect the weapon. Hunting deer. Plinking cans. Cleaning our .45s while CNN talks nonsense. The real threats? The deranged, the untreated, and the unhinged — and they’ll get a weapon with or without your precious legislation.
You can’t legislate sanity. You can’t pass a bill that stops crazy.
The NRA knows it. That’s why they fight like hell every time a politician starts yapping about “common sense reform.” Because here’s the truth: give them an inch and they think they’re a ruler. Take away our machine guns and next will be our pistols. Ridiculous, over reacting, maybe? Yes, but that’s how they think.
Gun shows. Pawn shops. Walmart. Joe Everymans pickup. This is America. Guns are everywhere — always have been. The 2nd amendment to our constitution provided us with the right to bear arms and states have instituted stand your ground laws to protect us against prosecution in self defense situations. And every time a shooting hits the news, some spotlight-humping Senator throws together a “ban list” while knowing damn well he’ll vote against it later. Just another chance to trend on TikTok while veterans get red-flagged for owning a gun safe full of inherited antique firearms.
Gun control isn’t the answer. Control the criminals. Control the chaos. Leave the rest of us the hell alone.
