Marine Corps Boot Camp, 1968: Welcome to Hell, Recruit!
In 1968, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps without the slightest idea what boot camp would be like. There was no YouTube, no internet, and nobody willing to explain what awaited us at MCRD San Diego. What followed was a crash course in discipline, exhaustion, intimidation, and survival. Nearly sixty years later, I still remember that first night.
