If you’ve scrolled social lately, especially Facebook, you’ve seen the claim: “Build an app in 2 minutes.” I put it to the test with Famous.ai, starting an app called “How American Men Can Retire Successfully in the Philippines.” Within minutes, my free credits expired, and I was prompted to upgrade before I could continue. That may work for some users; for me it confirmed the pattern: rapid scaffold, then paywall, while the hard parts still remain. Real app creators must be laughing their asses off at this nonsense.
Here’s what “2 minutes” actually gets you: a template, a couple screens, maybe a form. Useful? Sometimes. A real app needs much more: a data model, user accounts and auth, validation, payments, emails, analytics, error handling, hosting, backups, monitoring, and—yes—work.
Work as an allergy:

What AI is great at: starting code (Next.js/React/Flask), wiring CRUD, writing tests, drafting docs, refactoring.
What you still own: clear specs, data decisions, security, QA, and iteration.
A sane path instead of hype
- Landing + email capture (1–2 days) to validate interest.
- One valuable feature (e.g., cost-of-living calculator, visa pathfinder).
- Add auth + saved plans, then payments if people care.
AI can speed every step, but it’s a copilot, not a teleporter.
Opinion: Instant-gratification marketing converts clicks; it doesn’t convert apps into businesses. If a platform claims “minutes,” ask: minutes to what? A scaffold, or something you’d trust with customers?
